Rev. Charles Penson is a native of Tupelo, Mississippi.  He is the son of the lateTommy Penson and Eura Mae (Bell) Fisher.  He has been married to Cheryl Penson a native of Greenville, Mississippi for the past 40 years.  They have three children, Charles II (wife Susan), Candice (husband Josh), and Chelsey(husband Vincent). They have 7 grandchildren Charles 111,Terry,Kingston, Kassidey, Kiyomi, Cire, and Marley.   

 

Rev. Penson currently serves as Pastor of Bethel C.M.E.Church in Guntown, MS. He is an ordained elder in the CME Church. He serves as a Special Assistant to the Presiding ElderQ.H. Whitlock.  He is the President of the Get Out the Vote Coalition,a member of the Lee County, 1st Congressional District and State Democratic Executive Committees, a Delegate to the National Democratic Conventions in 2000 and 2012, Impact Board Member, a member of the NAACP, a Kingdom Broadcasting Network Partner, Habitat for Humanity, Association for Excellence in Education, and an original member of the Committee for King serving as past president and now Treasurer. He is a former Rotarian and Paul Harris Fellow and has served as a board member of the Black Business Association, Coalition of African American Organizations, Citizens for a New Mississippi, United Way, North Mississippi Health Services, Community Development Foundation, and the Commission on the Future of Northeast Mississippi. In 1980 he was appointed by Governor William Winter to the Mississippi Health Care Commission.

 

He is a 1970 graduate of George Washington Carver High School earning the Star Student Award and served as Student Body President. He is a Viet Nam era veteran having served three years in the U.S. Army. He attended Mississippi State University and earned a BA in Political Science (1977) and a master's degree in Public Administration (1978).  He completed the Master of Divinty program at Memphis Theological Seminary graduating Cum Laude in May of 2005.  He is a certified Senior Professional in Human Resources and Covey Leadership Trainer.
